Review of Kyma

KYMA
3085 Piedmont Rd., NE
Atlanta, GA 30305

Our reviewer visited Kyma on 3/14/07 for dinner with one companion.

What did you order? How was your food?

We went for appetizers and drinks

Saganaki….greek fried cheese. SO GOOD. Did not come to the table flaming like I’ve enjoyed at other greek restaurants, but delicious taste. Lots of olive oil and lemon to season.

“The Wave” appetizer. Shrimp, Octopus and Zucchini on skewers with dipping sauces

Chicken kebabs. Delicious, the tzatziki sauce and the red pepper puree for dipping were excellent.

Describe your impressions of the service. Was anything exceptionally good (or bad) about the quality of service you received?

We sat on the patio and except for an occasional breeze that caught the trash receptacle odor, I felt like I was back on the island of Santorini with the whitewashed buildings and blue glass decor. Our server was very good, recommending a new type of alcohol to try in one of our mixed drinks, even bringing the bottle to show us.

Do you consider this a good value for the money you spent? If no, why not?

The appetizers were priced well for this top tier white tablecloth restaurant. The service is on the level to be expected from a Buckhead Life restaurant. Can’t go wrong.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best), how would you rate this restaurant compared to the other restaurants you visit on a regular basis.

Kim S. visited Up the Creek for dinner on Friday, Feb. 23rd with her friend, Paula.

What did you order? How was your food?

Butterfish with garlic mashed potatoes & steamed broccoli. The fish was pretty good and the broccoli was good. They allowed me to blacken it rather than have it fried. The mashed potatoes seemed to be instant.

What did your companions order? How was their food?

APPETIZERS ORDERED: Mixed Seafood Grill which included a ton of food: Salmon, shrimp, rice, baked potato & steamed vegetables. She seemed to like everything.

Describe your impressions of the service. Was anything exceptionally good (or bad) about the quality of service you received?

The service was decent.

What do you think of the décor and atmosphere?

The décor was southern & simple (cabin feel to it). Reminded me of Folks with the wooden tables, chairs and bench seats. Definitely a family atmosphere.

Do you consider this a good value for the money you spent? If no, why not?

For the money I spent, we definitely got more food than we could eat and it wasn’t too bad.

Summary

The wait was not very long at all… There was comfortable seating in the waiting area and a very down home, southern feel to the restaurant. Very comfortable.

Kim S. dined at Table 1280 on Saturday, Feb. 17th, with five companions - Keith & date, Alicia, Nicole & Sonjile.

What did you order? How was your food?

I only ordered an appetizer and it was very good; small portion, but very tasty and filling.
Tian of Peeky Toe Crab, Apple, Celery Root, Hazelnuts.

What did your companions order? How was their food?

APPETIZERS ORDERED: Red Wine Braised Octopus, Fingerling Potatoes, Sun Dried Tomatoes; Parsnip Soup, Chantilly, Prosciutto Dust.

ENTREES ORDERED: Wild Boar Ragu, Strozzapreti; Prime Sirloin, Brussel Sprouts, Turnips, Apples; Merlu, Eggplant Caviar, Garlic Cream.

Note: Very strong $10 Martinis.

Describe your impressions of the service. Was anything exceptionally good (or bad) about the quality of service you received?

The service was good. We had at least 5 people to bring each dish.

What do you think of the décor and atmosphere?

The décor was definitely modern with very clean lines, very white, almost cold. The high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows with a view to the courtyard were an added appeal. The atmosphere was pretty quiet, but comfortable. Not many guests dining in. Bar area was very airy and cool with floor to ceiling windows all around. Not much seating though.

Do you consider this a good value for the money you spent? If no, why not?

Decent value.

This restaurant is best for:

• Good food • Quick bite • Family-friendly

• Outdoor • Romantic • Special occasion

This restaurant is good for stopping by having a drink &/or appetizer before or after going to an event at the High Museum.

Summary

Overall, I thought the location was great; the high ceilings and windows added a nice touch to it. The service was great. A little disappointed in the limited choices of entrees on the dinner menu. The restaurant also has a tapas lounge on the other side.

Great! Very friendly and customized.

What do you think of the décor and atmosphere?

Very traditional/authentic Japanese restaurant. All the waiters/waitresses dress in traditional Japanese clothes. There is a room where you can take off your shoes and sit on the floor around a table to eat. Not really romantic, but it’s just really good!

Yes. It’s a little pricey, but the quality of food is amazing. Definitely worth it!

Additional Comments:

I don’t think sushi was their specialty, especially it wasn’t in their menu. They had some really good looking entrees that I’d like to try. Also had Kobe Steak for $75…wish I could afford to try that.
